Ugandan jazz musicians are lamenting the decline of their genre, citing a lack of support as a major obstacle to its revival and market growth.
Tshaka Mayanja, one of the few Ugandan artists performing jazz, explained that musicians are losing their audience due to insufficient support for organizing concerts and promoting their music.
He appealed to corporate companies to support these artists and help revive the genre, which has struggled to gain traction in Uganda since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayanja made these remarks while speaking to officials from DFCU Bank, who are sponsoring Isaiah Katumwa, a renowned Ugandan jazz artist who recently returned from the USA. Katumwa will spearhead the revival of jazz in Uganda with a concert dubbed the DFCU Jazz Pearl Festival.
